Dangerous Driving 2 Is Playable at PAX East, Even on Nintendo Switch

In case you were unaware, PAX East is in its second day in Boston, MA right now, and the spiritual successor to Burnout, Dangerous Driving 2, is playable on the show floor. The game is scheduled to release "holiday 2020," and developer Three Fields Entertainment has a split-screen head-to-head version running on PC, as well as a single-player version running on Nintendo Switch.

Split-screen Dangerous Driving 2 play was fast and fun, and gave off some really incredible Burnout vibes, which is no surprise given the fact Three Fields Entertainment was founded Burnout developer Criterion Studios's founders.
Driving the outermost edge in the fastest class of car in the game takes around 90 minutes.

While the demo for PAX East is limited to one single race, the game itself is open-world, closer to Burnout Paradise than the previous Dangerous Driving. The Dangerous Driving 2 map is 400 square kilometers, according to Three Fields Entertainment, and driving the outermost edge in the fastest class of car in the game takes around 90 minutes to complete a single circuit. Some of the shortcuts and jumps, while turned off for the PAX East demo, are visible in the background if you look carefully.

What I found most impressive was the demo looked and played amazingly, and the team only started on the sequel in November. The Switch version was also playable and Three Fields Entertainment only started the process of porting it to Switch in January. In fact, only one member of the 7-person team actually did the port. To see it working and even get to play it at all given such limited time and resources is an accomplishment in and of itself.

The final version of the game on PC, Xbox One and PS4 will have up to 4-player split-screen, and they hope to see what they can bring over to the Switch version.

I had a great time playing Dangerous Driving 2. The controls are extremely crisp and it sticks to a true arcade-racing feel. Boost, e-braking, drifting and crashing are all here, and they look and feel great. I'm excited to see what this small team is able to accomplish when the game comes out this holiday season.
