Epic Explains Why Fortnite Season 2 Competitions Have Been Delayed

With the Fortnite World Cup 2019, information about the upcoming Fortnite tournament wasn’t made available until the end of February. So potential competitors for the 2020 championship expected something similar this year, but February passed with no news from Epic Games about the upcoming World Cup or any other Fortnite competition. Finally, the company has provided an explanation for the delay.

In a recent Twitter post, Epic stated that it is working to address performance issues with Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 that have been impacting both clients and servers. Until this happens, all Season 2 competitions, including the World Cup and Champion Series, have been put on hold. Understandably, the company doesn’t want to launch competitions with large cash prizes before ironing out all bugs and potential hiccups in the game.

Since the launch of Season 2 on February 20, Fortnite players have experienced a number of bugs, such as the game’s aim assist performing inconsistently or players being slowed down if they edited while sprinting. Another bug occasionally forced players underwater even when they were on land, causing the audio to become muffled and the screen to take on a blue tint. While that issue might seem minor and even amusing, the recent glitch that caused vehicles and players to fall through the map and die could be more serious if it occurred during a tournament with cash up for grabs.

While Epic promised to keep players posted with schedule updates as soon as possible, simply hearing from the company has eased the worries of many gamers. The long silence seems to have been the biggest concern for players. Many Fortnite pro players thanked Epic for finally letting people know what was going on. Luminosity’s ‘Kiwiz’ responded to Epic’s Twitter post by stating, “Seriously don’t be scared to update the community so we actually know what’s happening.”

The Fortnite World Cup is intended to be an annual esports event, although there has thus far only been one championship, with the finals taking place back in July 2019. The tournament was divided into two categories, one for solo players and another for two-player teams, and the winner or winners took home a three million dollar cash prize. Additionally, the World Cup Creative Trials featured eight events, each focused on a different Creative game. And the Pro-Am event teamed up 50 popular Fortnite streamers and celebrities, with the cash prizes going to charity. In total, the Fortnite World Cup 2019 had a prize pool of 30 million dollars.

Fortnite was released in 2017 and is available on mobile devices, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
