During a panel at PAX East, Marvel and
Netmarble announce a new open-world RPG game for mobile titled Marvel:
Future Revolutions.
Marvel: Future Revolution's announcement came with a trailer that uses all in-engine footage. Based on the trailer, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man will all be playable characters. The game follows the new "Omega Flight" team as they fight through various locations such as Xanderth and Sakaar. The open-world format will most likely allow players to travel around these locations freely. It appears Marvel is using the blueprint from some aspects of the highly anticipated Marvel Avengers game.
Based on the trailer, superheroes will have various costumes, or
different versions from other dimensions will also be playable
characters. The game also promises new and existing costumes with
customization, so players may enjoy brand new variations of their
favorite characters. A few versions of Spider-Man make an appearance in
the trailer through portals created by Doctor Strange. Later on in the
trailer, many portals are opened and unidentifiable superheroes emerge,
hinting at possibly a very deep customization aspect, or even more
playable characters. It is possible that the heroes mentioned will be
the only heroes, which would be disappointing, given that Marvel's
previous mobile game had over 100 playable characters. It is important
to keep in mind that the game has just been announced so there will be more information about gameplay and characters in the future.
Since Marvel: Future Revolution will be a mobile title, heroes will probably be added with updates. Many heroes and villains have been a part of Marvel games, but many more still could be included. There is not much information on any villains in the game, however, it appears the main grunt enemies will be the Outriders, the alien species that fights for Thanos and the Black Order. Based on the trailer, Marvel: Future Revolution may be a top-down action RPG with upgrade-able abilities that use cooldowns, much like Marvel: Future Fight. Not much about the combat is revealed in the trailer, except potential abilities like Spider-Man's web shooting or Captain Marvel's energy blasts.
Marvel also is planning several VR games and experiences. The Iron Man VR game was announced last year but hit with a delay and expected to release later this year. With the announcement of the mobile title, Marvel is now expecting games on traditional consoles, VR, and mobile. Marvel: Future Revolution has not been given an official release date, but one is expected to be announced soon.
