Streets of Rage 4 Trailer Showcases New Character Floyd Iraia and Co-Op Modes

A Streets of Rage 4 trailer reveals the game's fifth and final playable character along with two options for cooperative play.

At some point later this year, fans of the classic beat 'em up series Streets of Rage will finally get a new entry in Streets of Rage 4. This title will build upon the foundation established by the Streets of Rage trilogy, which released for the Sega Genesis in the 1990s, and a recently-revealed trailer is now giving fans a look at a brand new Streets of Rage 4 character as well the game's co-op features.

The new Streets of Rage 4 character is one Floyd Iraia, and it seems that he will pack quite a punch indeed. Utilizing cybernetic arms, which he received from Streets of Rage 3's Dr. Zan, Floyd has the longest reach of all of the playable characters in the game, and he can even use them to fire a laser. These offensive powers are balanced by the fact that Floyd is the title's slowest character, both in terms of movement and health recovery, and that is something that players will certainly need to remain mindful of.

To note, Floyd is the fifth and final playable character in Streets of Rage 4, with Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, Adam Hunter, and Cherry Hunter filling out the rest of the roster. Of these four characters, Axel, Blaze, and Adam are returning from other entries in the franchise, while Cherry joins Floyd as a brand new fighter, and an extensive Streets of Rage 4 gameplay video previously gave fans a look at some of these characters in action.

With respect to co-op in Streets of Rage 4, the new trailer shows off the game's multiplayer options. To begin, the game will have online capabilities that will allow two players to work together to overcome its many challenges. Additionally, Streets of Rage 4 will facilitate 4-player local co-op – a first for the series and something that many fans of beat 'em ups are likely to be excited about.

With Streets of Rage 3 26 years in the past, it is certainly high time for a new game to arrive with updated graphics and gameplay. While it remains to be seen if Floyd, his companions, and the title's co-op features will live up to fans' expectations for the title, players that love arcade classics may simply be happy to know that some developers continue to give these types of games attention.
